Fix iTunes error 1004 and Transfer iPhone 4 Data


Though iPhone is an advanced device that comprises of advanced features, still sometimes it get stuck in some problem while accessing it and due to this reason user encounter below given error message:


“Could not purchase. An unknown error occurred (1004). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later. OK.”

Generally this error appears when the user try to upgrade iPhone 4 in to a new IOS by using iTunes. While performing this task user come across iTunes Error 1004 message and then iPhone get stuck in the recovery mode. This is one of the common problem that generally occurs in iPhone of many users. So to fix iTunes error 1004 follow below given steps if you are using Mac OSX. The steps are given below:

  • At first Open finder.
  • Press the COMMAND + SHIFT keys and then the ‘G’ key to open the folder directly.
  • After this write “/private/etc/” in the required field and then click ‘Go’.
  • In the directory find the ‘hosts’, Now drag the document to the desktop.
  • Then Open it in the text editor.
  • Find the line that contains the “gs.apple.com”, now you can either remove it entirely or simply place a hash (#) mark to make the line void.
  • Now save the file.

           



For Windows users, the steps given below must be followed.

  • Locate the ‘hosts’ file on your system. If you are using Windows 95/98/Me then you would find it in C:\Windows\hosts. If you are a Windows NT/2000/XP Pro user, go to C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. Windows XP, Vista 7 users have to go to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.
  • After this right click the document and “Open With” notepad or text editor.
  • In this you would find a line with “gs.apple.com”. Remove it completely and then save the file.

If the above steps fails to Fix iTunes error 1004 then reinstall iTunes to its latest version.
